Success is failure turned inside out. Never give up!
I looove the Kentucky Derby! I have been watching this annual elite horse racing event since I was a little tot. My family and I would gather around the television every year to see which horse would win the crown. When I became older, I went to one of the three triple crown races, Belmont Stakes in New York! I betted on horses and actually won some money! And it was everything I imagined it would be. Luxe hats, dresses, mint juleps and beautiful people.
Since I can’t travel to Kentucky to actually attend the race, I have found an alternative right here in Atlanta. One of my favorite restaurants, Parish, is hosting a Kentucky Derby Day Party featuring bourbon infused cocktails, Derby inspired bites, live music, a photo booth and prizes! Of course Derby attire is expected, so I will get to wear my big hat with a luxe dress and shoes. I.Can’t.Wait. This is so my type of event! Swoon!
Check out the deets!
Head to The Brasserie and Neighborhood Café at PARISH on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for Atlanta’s most authentic Derby Day party. Revelers are invited to don their best bow ties, seersucker, spring dresses and fanciest hats, because PARISH is transforming the restaurant and patio into Churchill Downs for an unforgettable viewing party. Guests can place their bets as they enjoy live music and sip on mint juleps and nosh on Derby-inspired bites. Before watching the horses run for roses, party goers can strike a pose in the interactive photo booth and enter for the chance to win prizes for the best hat, best dressed and more.
Executive Chef Stuart Tracy is pulling out all the stops for what promises to be an unforgettable party. Derby-inspired bites feature his spin on traditional favorites and include: Miniature Hot Brown Sandwiches; Kentucky Country Ham Biscuits with Sorghum and Creole Mustard; Pickled Shrimp; PARISH Fried Chicken; Asparagus and Fontina Gougèrese; Tomato Pie; Kentucky Derby Pie and more. Imbibers will be treated a complimentary classic Mint Julep and can also explore a specialty menu featuring Parish Oaks Lily, Fourth Ward Julep, Single Barrel Saturday; and ATL Derby Tea cocktails.
Tickets are $30 per person and include a classic Four Roses mint julep, fare and the world’s largest G.H. Mumm champagne toast. Tax and gratuity is not included. For tickets and more information, call PARISH at 404.681.4434.”

Have you been getting fashion advice from Big Brother? Big Brother is always watching. Google tells me how long it takes to get home, suggests which apps to open and where. Based on the pages I open on one device, I get suggestions on where to shop on another device. It is both scary and annoying and admittedly… somewhat helpful. Big Brother’s latest suggestion for my habit- Chic Wish, an indie website devoted to selling boho-chic blouses and midi skirts.
ChicWish has the most affordable, on-trend digs. It is “my new Modcloth” (if you don’t know the reference, just read the first 100 posts I wrote for LuxeTips on the affordable site that gets updates to its inventory on a nearly daily basis and even makes purchases based on fan votes.) ChicWish is no less trendy than Modcloth, offering similarly popular pieces at prices that make a girl smile.
There are two highly popular looks that ChicWish has been promoting on both its Instagram and Pinterest feeds. The first, a one-shoulder pinstripe number with ruffles running down the shoulder. It comes in blue stripe, pink stripe, and solid pink. The second is a black gingham print off-shoulder, long-sleeved top with bell sleeves. (Remember the Intermix blouse I shared a couple of weeks ago? Well, here’s your chic on-trend and much more affordable remix.) Both are statement tops that scream my name. You can find the Gingham Off-shoulder Top with Bell Sleeves and Swanky One-shoulder Ruffle Striped Top at Chic Wish for $ 42.42 and $54.32 respectively.
Until next week,
Know your power. Know your worth!
As you Divas know, I love luxe cars and this past week I had the opportunity to test drive the new 2017 Lexus GX460 luxury SUV for a week.
The new Lexus GX460 has innovate performance, a luxurious interior, amazing sound system and the best technology.
The 2017 GX 460 has a spacious and luxurious interior that easily accommodates up to seven passengers. The interior is decked out in all premium leather and the seats are comfortable and luxurious. In addition, there is ample leg room. I have four kids that are pre-teens and teens and they are big kids. They all had enough room to stretch out their legs and have enough arm room. I didn’t hear the dreaded words: “stop touching me!” LOL!
The third row has fold-flat 50/50 split seats. You can customize how you load and store cargo with these seats. If you need more room, simply fold the third row and you have enough room to haul large big box items, camping gear and sports equipment.
Another cool feature is that each passenger, even in the third row, has the ability to control their climate. This is super important because with kids, one may be hot and other cold and a battle to control the climate can escalate pretty quickly. With the Lexus GX 460, the available three-zone automatic climate control with interior air filter, smog sensor and automatic recirculation mode helps ensure the comfort of you and the rest of your passengers in any type of weather.
Of course the sound system was important and the Lexus Premium Audio system offers an immersive surround-sound experience courtesy of optimized speaker placement throughout the cabin. My family loved, loved loved the sound system. Everyone enjoyed a clear, crisp sound no matter where they sat throughout the vehicle. Also with bluetooth technology which comes standard in the Lexus 460 GX, we could connect our smartphone devices to the vehicle and make and receive phone calls while also accessing and controlling our compatible device’s entire music library and even streaming audio from websites.
With Lexus Enform System, you can get turn by turn directions via the navigation system and get access to your mobile device’s apps through the Lexus Enform App suite. This feature offers access to your favorite mobile applications through your vehicle’s center-console display. You can search local listings, stream music, listen to live radio nationwide, place restaurant reservations and buy movie tickets—all from the center-console display. And, with advanced voice recognition, accessing and controlling the App Suite’s features is easier than ever. Fab!
The Lexus GX460 is a powerful vehicle. One of the innovative and cool performance features is the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. This system is designed to change with the terrain. By automatically fixing the front and rear stabilizer bars in place when on-road, it helps to minimize body lean while cornering. Off-road, it allows each wheel to move more independently, so a wheel on uneven ground can react while the other wheels are relatively unaffected.
This feature allows for the smoothest ride ever. The vehicle glides over bumps and any other defections in the road. It was a joy to drive!
In addition the vehicle has 301 horsepower, 4 wheel drive, has a V-8 4.6 engine and can town 6500 pounds. So you can tow a boat or other camping or storage equipment with ease.
The new 2017 Lexus GX 460 is a great luxury vehicle for a large family! It is great for road trips and simply driving around your city! So luxe!
The Lexus GX 460 starting retail price is$51,680
I recently had to break down and purchase another iPhone. (Cue the dirge). I was desperately trying to hold out for the highly-anticipated, Tenth Anniversary, scheduled to be released in September, but God had a different plan for my bank account. (Pass the tissues.)
Now, I believe myself to be a somewhat practical individual, but rarely do I miss an opportunity to express myself. There is seldom a chance where I will sacrifice form for function; utility just does not always win out with me, but I knew I needed something sturdy case that would survive two toddlers and perhaps another complete underwater submersion.
OtterBox is known for its sturdy high-quality cases. The standard black and dark gray cases stand the test of time. I bear witness to it having seen other people’s phones outlast my own, but the vanity standing on my left shoulder said in a very Iyanla Vanzant voice said, “Not on my watch.” I swear vanity wins every time, I could not muster the courage to purchase a plain black OtterBox to protect my new phone.
Well, you know me, vanity won, but here’s why: I ran across an OtterBox with a bit of flair. OtterBox makes a very sturdy hard-shell, floral case that happens to compliment my Betsey Johnson makeup bag. Betsey is the Queen of florals and in my opinion is at the forefront of making florals edgy, littering her floral prints against cheetah prints and tattoos. If you are anything like me – vain, visual, a lover of aesthetics – then neither your makeup bag or your phone is a solid black. If you are looking for a way to protect your new iPhone and still compliment your personal style, then try the OtterBox Symmetry Series Case for iPhone 7, in Bouquet. You can find it on Amazon for $25.00.
Until next week,
Spring break is one of my absolute favorite times to vacation. By the time April rolls around, everyone is ready for a break! The Luxetips kids are exhausted from school and the Luxe parents are exhausted from work and taking care of kids! HA! As a result, everyone is in a good mood, excited and ready to go!
This year for Spring Break we ventured to the Northern West Coast of Florida to enjoy the perfect weather, calming Gulf of Mexico and of course white sugar sand beaches. Gorgeous! However, we discovered that there is more to this area than pretty beaches and clear blue skies. We discovered a happening art scene, scenic bike routes and the Riverwalk. Check it out!
Well preserved beaches.
We love Clearwater Beach and we have been there several times. However, on this vacation, I wanted to explore other beaches and we discovered Honeymoon Island. Honeymoon Island is a small island off the coast of Clearwater Beach. It is a State Park so it is not developed and crowded like Clearwater Beach. It is pristine, peaceful and absolutely stunning.
Love, love, love.
Another amazing discovery we made about Tampa is that this city is very metro and has an up and coming art scene. We visited the ultra modern Tampa Museum of Art and it was a hit with the entire family. Also here is a luxetip: If you stay at the Sheraton Hotel Riverwalk, your room key gets you FREE admission. So luxe! Check out the art!
There was also a very cool urban art show taking place at our swanky hotel, Starwood’s Aloft Tampa. This art show featured local artists and the work was stunning!
One of the coolest attractions in Tampa is the Riverwalk. This walking trail runs along side the Hillsborough River and features parks, restaurants, hotels and other Tampa attractions like The Florida Aquarium, The Tampa History Center and more. I loved the Riverwalk. It is a great place to take a nice walk or ride your bike. We did both, but sometimes we would just sit and people watch. It is such a great attraction!
As I mentioned, we did rent bikes in Tampa and rode them all around Tampa. Check out the views!
Tampa also has some of the best hotels. We stayed a couple of nights at The Sheraton Riverwalk and the remainder of our stay at the Aloft Tampa. We adored the Aloft! This ultra modern hotel featured luxe furnishing, a roof top pool overlooking the Riverwalk, a swanky lounge and bar area, an outdoor fire pit and my fav bath and body products from Bliss Spa. Swoon! I was in heaven and the kids loved it too!
But of course nothing was better than hanging with our kids and seeing the look of bliss on their faces. They had the absolute best time ever and it makes us so happy to make them happy. So much love!
Living in the past and looking towards the future, stops us from living and enjoying the life that is happening right before us. Work to stay in the moment!
One of my favorite Atlanta Summer Concert series is kicking off on April 30th!
Sunset Sessions at Park Tavern is a free weekly, alternative music series featuring popular alternative artists every Sunday this spring and summer.
The annual series kicks off on April 30th under Park Tavern’s spacious, air conditioned Garden Tent with must-see Southern tinged rock band Atlas Road Crew, Disco Tendencies, and The Gypsies. Additional confirmed artists for Sunset Sessions include: San Fermin, Low Roar, and Shy Layers (5/7); Sweet Tea Trio, Pat Cooper and The Band Lovett (5/14); Trae Pierce & the T-Stones and Sazerac (5/21); Jamestown Revival and Colter Wall (6/4); John Paul White and Lera Lynn (6/11); Meg Mac (6/18); Surfer Blood (6/25); Girls Guns & Glory and Cold Heart Canyon (8/20) and Tropidelic (9/3). So fab!
Concert goers can also enjoy specialty seasonal cocktails, house-brews, 1/2 off sushi from 10 p.m. to midnight, and much more. The free concert series will run through Sunday, October 1, 2017; every show is from 7 to 11 p.m. and guests must be 21+ older to attend. For more information, visit www.parktavern.com.
Sunset Sessions is a great way to enjoy great music for free! It is a must!
I totally miss the “My Mom the Style Icon” blog that celebrated mothers and their style. The last post was 2012; here it is five years later and I am still talking about it. My mother would have been 69 yesterday, so I wanted to dedicate today’s post to one of my favorite fashionistas and a true style icon, Mommy.
My mother was equal bits of class and femininity. Her classic style matched her southern and modest upbringing. She reminded me of Diahann Carol with her big clip- on earrings, shoulder pads and perfectly coiffed her. She wore minimal makeup to keep her look fresh, allowing her natural beauty to shine through. Her clothing was equally befitting- neat, clean and pressed with HEAVY starch. While she participated in some of the decadence of the eighties, her personal style remained timeless.
While cleaning, I found this picture of my mother, my sister and myself. My mother’s outfit was probably not one she put much effort into achieving, but it is a flawless look perfect for a Friday date night, casual Friday workday or just romping about town running Saturday errands. The white blazer and low-cut white blouse are a refreshing Spring look that can be dressed up, especially when paired with the dark denim. I have recreated the look with a pair of Hudson High-waist jeans (The new takes on high-waist denim no longer scream “Mommy”. ), $195.00 at Zappos and a BCBG Generation Blazer, $118.
Life is beautiful! Enjoy it!
Victoria Beckham just debuted her new clothing line at Target and it is simple, luxe and has something for everyone!
The line includes women’s, plus-sizes and kids’ luxe fashions. What I love most is the bold and colorful prints and of course they are super affordable! Prices range from $6-$70. Fab!
Take a look!
Be sure to visit Target.com or get to the store quick! This line will surely sell out fast!
True love always wins!

Recently, I was asking a friend what does one wear on a first date. Yep! Even your favorite fashionistas will come up with blank stares when it comes to questions about what to wear to an emotionally charged event (first date, wedding, meeting the parents, graduation, death). Totally, first-world issues, right. But, first dates are extremely emotionally charged events.
My very sage and minimalist friend gave me the best piece of fashion advice (that doubled as some good dating advice). She said, “Wear what you would wear if you and I were going out to kick it during happy hour.”
How simple for little ole complicated me. It was some of the wisest fashion advice and dating advice. Essentially, Sage Sally was saying, “be friends first.” She elaborated on her suggestion: This is someone you don’t know and don’t necessarily need to impress. Her advice hit home. Perhaps I didn’t need to be told to wear (that’s a rare occasion), but just a simple reminder to be myself.
The only way I would have been comfortable is if I had worn what made me happy, which is typically what I do on an ordinary day, so why would I change for this date? I’ll tell you why? women are women, and men are men, and people are people who have legitimate emotions and they want to attract a mate and hormones make us all crazy and drive our behavior including consumer behavior. And this consumer was contemplating a brand-new outfit for a first date… breathe.
So, the question remains, “what does one wear on a first date, especially when they live in a city where it is 78 in the morning and 38 at night and 90 the next day and one groundhog saw his shadow and the other one did not see his shadow (you get my drift). My answer: my standard not trying too hard to please but I clean up well look which is equivalent to something that is both comfortable, cute, and not overtly sexy, and semi-warm but won’t make your blood boil. I like feminine touches that don’t scream, “Touch me,” but maybe just whisper it. Lol. That is just my personal preference. But if you want to be safe, my suggestion for a date night, a nice fitted boatneck or dressy button down tunic, dark denim (or maybe white for summer) and boots for winter or strappy flats for summer). Feel free to share yours. I am always open for suggestions. Here’s a cute boatneck by Tibi that is a perfect top for a first date.
Until next week,
