Celebrate World Fitness Day with Jane Fonda and Friends!

Hello Divas!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous day! I know I am!

Lately I have been running in the park and doing strengthening exercises at home to stay healthy.  The last time I worked out was before my daughter was born, which was over two years ago! Yikes!  That is a shame for someone you previously ran track!

Since I have been running, I am feeling good and am finally able to walk up a hill without huffing and puffing. Small accomplishment but I am excited.  Considering my new found dedication to getting and remaining healthy, you can image my enthusiasm when I was invited to attend the first ever World Fitness Day hosted by Jane Fonda and a host of celebrity fitness gurus!  This event will be held on May 1, 8:30 a.m at the Georgia Dome here in Atlanta, GA. 

Fitness geeks will have the opportunity to participate in a group workout with Jane Fonda, Richard Simmons, Billy Banks, Denise Austin and Dr. Sanjay Gupta!

There will be a health and fitness expo starting at 8:30 am.  Guests will be able to learn about healthy living from vendors while mingling with professional athletes and other celebrities.  Following the expo, Dr. Sanjay Gupta will deliver opening remarks and then the workout begins!

This is sure to be a FUN and HEALTHY event.  Individual tickets are $75.  That may seem a little steep, however all proceeds from the sale of World Fitness Day tickets go to G-CAPP, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention.  As a native Atlantan, I remember when Jane Fonda started this organization in 1995.  At the time the state of Georgia had the highest teen pregnancy rate in the Nation and Ms. Fonda set out to lower that statistic.  This organization has helps thousands of teens in Georgia become healthy, productive, and confident teens.

  3. So, instead of a website, I chose a blog. Not that I have a clue how to run a blog, but I can give it a shot! So this blogspot will be the new home of F Squared Fitness. Why the heck the name F Squared? Because I believe Fitness and Function are so important in living a rewarding life (hence f to the power of 2). Now, I am obviously not talking about fitness to the extreme, (have you seen me lately?) but a healthy functional life. Being able to do everyday things in your life without getting injured and frankly, out of breath! You all know what I mean. Aren’t there just some days where walking up stairs, or lifting kids makes you out of breath! So, here on this site, we will focus on tidbits of fitness related information that I think is important, and also will keep you informed of my different classes I will be offering. And I promise there will be more as I get more time! (More time? What is that!)Right now, I am in the beginning of an entry level fitness class. Which I have to say is going well! (Good job ladies!) And soon I may be adding a “get ready for golf season” class and of course in the spring, Bootcamp! Yae! And hopefully more fun stuff!

Keep your wrists straight, and avoid excessive bending, which can place pressure on the nerves in the wrist. Place as little weight as possible on your wrists and hands when riding. If the wrists become injured, they may be painful, or you may experience numbness or tingling sensations in the wrist, hands or fingers.How to avoid injuries Spinning injuries can be avoided with minimal effort, just make sure that you have the proper bike set up. Make an effort to stretch your leg and back muscles after every ride. In addition, cross training with other cardiovascular activities will cut down on your risk of the above overuse problems. Adding in strength training exercises for the legs and core muscles will help you avoid muscular imbalances and help you to ride properly.
