Luxetips Events! Official NBAF Preview Party at MODA
Hello Divas!

I truly hope your life is simply fabulous!

On May 18th I had the pleasure of attending the Official National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) Preview Party at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA).  NBAF is the premier national and international presenter of art, music and culture of people of African descent.  For over 23 years, NBAF has been very successful at exposing and educating diverse audiences about the artistic talents of people of the African Diaspora.  The event is held every year during the month of July in Atlanta and this year’s festival will take place July 7th through July 17th.

When I arrived at the event, I was greeted with a cocktail of artistic expression.  There were musicians playing, art work displayed and the MODA is simply fabulous!  The event was catered by the award winning One Flew South restaurant and cocktails were provided by Bombay Sapphire Gin.

All the beautiful and influential people of Atlanta were in attendance including Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.  The President and CEO of NBAF, Neil Barclay,  gave a wonderful presentation about NBAF’s history, this year’s festival and of course thanked the wonderful sponsors.  We received a nice goody bag and in it was the official NBAF poster! Whoohoo! I am getting it framed asap!

This year’s theme is “Unexpected Encounters” and will feature a cross section of fabulous artists such as The Ojays, Interpretations featuring a tribute to Romare Bearden (love Romare Bearden!), Dance Africa Atlanta (first time in Atlanta) Omar Sosa, and Trenton Doyle Hancock’s Exhibit which will open the festival on July 7th.

Every year NBAF hosts a wonderful fundraising black tie gala and the theme for this year’s gala is “A Salute to the Silver Screen.” There will be a Big Band performing, clips featuring African-American artists on the silver screen and black and white formal attire is required.  Fabulous!

This year’s NBAF will surely be amazing and I can’t wait to attend the many performances, exhibits and of course the wonderful Children Education Village with the luxe kids.  I was checking out the schedule and there are so many wonderful events to choose from and there is something for everyone.

Check out the NBAF Festival schedule and make it a priority to attend an event.  Many events are free or very affordable.  However, if you have some money to spend and want to give to a good cause, attend the Gala which will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead.

I hope to see you during the festival!
